Thrushes etc

From Kevin Caley (from Llanteg):

My Monday early morning workout (it is hardly a 'birdwatch', as it's mostly bramble-bashing at the moment!) had a bit of event this morning.

As well as the usual friendly robins, the dunnocks, the overflying skylarks and meadow pipits, the two pairs of chit chatting stonechats on the hedge and the permanently surprised wood pigeons that took off as I entered our entrance field, we had a mass fly over of thrushes between 8.00 and 9.30 (it began drizzling at that time, and I needed my breakfast!  .... but not before I caught up with our resident goldcrests, nuthatches, bullfinches and chaffinches!).

In about 35 flocks (with a few strays) we had mostly redwings, mixed in with a few fieldfare. That is, 2,700 redwing and 155 fieldfare, some of the former (about 30-40) landing in our east-side boundary trees. All were flying in the same direction, namely from the Tenby direction towards the northern side of Marros Mountain (i.e. SW -> NE).
