Wales rookery survey - progress report

Counts for the all-Wales Rookery Survey have been coming in thick and fast.  So time for a general update.

This map shows records entered into the Cofnod system by midnight on 18th April.

You can see there has been quite a change since the last Breeding Bird Atlas, with many rookeries disappearing, especially in the south of the county.

Elsewhere, we often have only a tetrad record showing evidence of breeding - no name or grid reference to pinpoint where in that tetrad.  None of the BTO or Pembrokeshire Breeding Bird Atlases required that a rookery was pinpointed or counted, just that there was evidence of breeding in a tetrad.

So, if you know of a rookery, please do count it and enter it into the system.  If you know of one that has disappeared, please enter that too - and click on the button that says 'negative record' so we know definitely that it has gone.  While we have found many rookeries by just driving around, anything away from the roadside is easily missed.

An updated map is posted every few days on the Avifauna, so please check that from time to time.
