After going quiet for a while it was good to see the Willow tits have had a good year with young birds in 3-4 spots in Ty Rhyg, as well as recently fledged Redstarts and Spotted flycatchers. Crossbills seem to be doing ok with family groups of up to 10 birds showing regularly in the Preseli woodlands and around the edge of Brynberian as well, looks like another good cone crop this year. The sight of a Goshawk family with 2 well grown youngsters is always good to see.
With the glorious weather my attention has turned mostly to inverts. Brynberian is my bolt hole of choice at this time, plenty of Southern damsels, fewer Scarce blue-tails and a handful of Small Reds. Today it was butterflies with a few Silver-washed fritillaries at Bosherston and at least 4 White-letter hairstreaks at Pwllcrochan, mostly silhouetted at the top of the elms adjacent to St Marys church but 2 came down to nectar on the brambles. Finished off with distant brief views of Purple hairstreaks at Westfield Pill.
