While waiting for a flock of Choughs to arrive at a communal roost at Castlemartin Range last evening (23 did so, after feeding in the dune grassland) we noted that numerous flying ants were attracting the attention of 20-30 hirundines (house martins and swallows) and a couple of swifts. Quite a few gulls were also feeding on them over the shore near Freshwater West. These included numerous Black-headed and at least a dozen Mediterranean. Two of these were adults, but most of the Med gulls were 1CY birds.
A late posting (we've been rather busy lately) but a week ago two Whinchats (young disbursing birds) were noted at St Davids Airfield and we observed a Quail at very close range in a nearby grassland area.
