It appears that a/the Great White Egret had the same idea as me and was sheltering from the blustery wind at the bend at Hook Bight, protected by the steep hillside and woods below Hook. It stayed there for at least two hours feeding successfully on a falling tide. I suspect it may return tomorrow as the forecast for the wind is similar.
Also around were at least three Little Egrets, about a dozen each of Curlew and Dunlin, around 60 Redshank, 35+ Mallard. A tight group of at least 150 Teal were tucked up with some Redshanks and hard to see under the bank below Little Milford farm with a couple of Wigeon. They were only apparent as they moved onto the water when disturbed by a crow. There might have been other species lurking.
Five Red Kites were soaring around for a while and a Peregrine put in an appearance over the fields towards Boulston, possibly taking an interest in a small Starling flock.
