From Roger Brock: Newport, Thursday 17 around mid-day: around 70 Wigeon plus some Mallard, 8 Dunlin, one Ruff and one Barwit along with around a dozen Redshank and half-a-dozen Curlew, also pretty much a full house of ‘regular’ gulls – GBBG, LBBG, Herring, Common, Black-headed and Mediterranean. That afternoon, about 80 Golden Plover flying around between Croesgoch and Mesur-y-Dorth. The following morning there were about 200 Golden Plover and 20 Lapwing, a little more towards Square and Compass, and on both days very skittish and reluctant to settle: not sure where they did eventually land but there are some fields of winter wheat among what otherwise looks rather long grass pasture.
