I found Alan M in the hide, he'd seen the 2CY ♀ marsh harrier earlier (individual i/d'd from his photo) but otherwise all seemed quiet. Then - a single brent goose flew hard and low past the hide on the Corse side - range 30 feet, altitude 6 feet. It was over in seconds. While I was focused on that, Alan was watching 3 more passing behind the hide on the Gupton side. So, a family party-sized group, and only a short hop from Angle Bay, but out of place and new to the Corse.
We shot out in hot pursuit - a group of lapwing with a single ringed plover flew over our heads. A redshank shot past. The fen meadow was lifting with snipe. This is all exciting stuff for the Corse after months of drought. I scanned as far as I could upstream and then walked back to Gupton, drove round to Castlemartin Church and searched the upstream wet meadows, but no sign of the geese. There was a large flock of golden plover - several hundred - and lapwing everywhere, a few curlew upstream.
