Newport: Water Pipit etc

From Elizabeth Snell: Water Pipit flew onto the beach just over the fence by parking at Newport Bridge but soon flew off, very bright and well marked.

Flock of around 80 Lapwing flew across the B4582 near Croft junction with A487.

Anyone interested in studying the feeding behaviour of Little Grebes? There is one consistently feeding in the flow below the iron Bridge at Newport. It can be seen clearly through the water from above and is finding sizeable morsels under the weed. One looked like a small fish. On Sunday it was in close company with a male mallard actually diving beneath it from all directions. There was no interaction but it looked like the grebe might have been profiting from the disturbance made by the mallard as it up-ended in the shallow water.
