Hi Folks
Are you interested in surveying a BBS square? There are several available in Pembrokeshire, plus some just across the boundary in Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire.
Squares currently available in Pembrokeshire:
That last one should read that the current surveyor is retiring after this season, and is willing to show a new volunteer the ropes ready for next season.
All the information about BBS is available on the BTO website. If you go to the request a square page you choose a 10km square, and that will automatically send me an email of your interest.
BBS requires only three visits (1 recce, 1 survey visit between early April and mid-May, 1 later survey visit between mid-May and late June) a year, so it isn't too arduous. Most of these squares have routes already set up by previous surveyors.
Some of us have been enjoying BBS since it started in 1994. However, as people retire or move away, a few squares become available each season.
If
you do not think that you have the required bird identification skills to take
on a BBS square, you may be interested in taking part in one of the BTO
training courses. You can find out more about them here.
