Hoopoe on Caldey

We visited Caldey today to check out chough sites etc. We were able to confirm three breeding pairs which was nice.

hoopoe was seen feeding briefly on the grassy path to the Lighthouse this morning, it flew towards the village/woodland zone, but we did not see it again.

merlin put in a brief appearance near Redberry Bay just as an adult peregrine flew over the island heading out to sea. Three greylags in flight above Sandtop Bay were most likely to be breeding somewhere on the island.  Breeding ravens were also feeding young at one location.

There were not many obvious migrant passerines around, but a few few wheatears and a willow warbler were probably birds just passing through.

We had a message yesterday from Paul Culyer, NRW, who had been told by Castlemartin Range staff that someone (don't know who) had seen ring ouzel near the Warren Tower public viewing area yesterday.
