Marloes peninsular

Up to a dozen Sand Martins feeding in a fairly tight group over the Coast Path above Marloes Sands. There has been a cliff colony of around 20 holes here in previous years: let’s hope they will nest here again this year.

Marloes Mere: still a good variety of dabbling duck: Shoveler appeared the most numerous, but plenty of Wigeon. And 3 Ringed Plover were flying around, calling.

Postscript: at 2145 tonight, an owl watched for several minutes with thermal, hunting around the Deer Park wall and banks of the Rath. Identified as a Barn Owl when it started “calling” a thoroughly blood-curdling screech! Clearly Barn Owls are known to roost on Skomer over winter, but we have never seen (or heard) one in Martin’s Haven before.
