Paul and I had a good look around some St Davids spots today. Starting with a walk from the golf club via the YHA and around the Head. 12 Wheatear in the paddocks had increased to 18 later, with a scattering around the Head itself bringing the total to 26. Chiffs and Willow warblers everywhere especially in the blackthorn. 16 Blackcaps (11 male), 7 Whitethroat and 3 Grasshopper warbler. Only half a dozen Pied wagtails seemed a poor return. Male Kestrel (lots of lizards basking in the sunny sheltered spots). Ring ouzel chacking in the blackthorn scrub behind the YHA but refused to show as we followed its chacks along the thicket. Male Pied flycatcher in Porthmelgan withies and brief views of another male behind the YHA later.
Trefeiddan, female Kestrel, 5 Golden plover and Red kite flying over. Sedge warblers here and by Rhosson. Penberri, nothing of note, levels high so no bank showing. Ifor's Pond, pair of Tufted duck, pair Shoveler and nesting Swan. Finished with a walk around Plumstone which was disappointing given the conditions with no Yellowhammers to be seen or heard.
