A first-summer male Golden Oriole was found early afternoon at Maryborough, just south of Dale, by visiting birder Darryl Spittle. It was hard to see and was mobile between the start of the track to the farm (where it splits to West Blockhouse) down as far as well into the Castlebeach woods, half way towards the beach. But mostly west of the farm. There is a footpath down the road and track, and down into Castlebeach. Didn't manage any photos, but did take a short video to record the song when it was along the access track to the farm - the original video would not upload so hope this works! If going to try and see this bird, the best place to park is Kete and walk back.
Also here a Turtle Dove briefly and at least 5 Spotted Flycatchers.
This evening at the Gann still lots of waders - around 200 Dunlin, 80 Ringed Plover, 20 Sanderling, 2 Grey Plover, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit and 6 Whimbrel.
A pair of Shelduck appeared with a single newly hatched chick on Sunday, it was still there on Monday, but had gone by Tuesday....a surprise to us that they had go to that stage, as the female seemed to be visible most of the time the past 3-4 weeks.
