Marloes Mere

Couple of hours around the mere (in the hope Skomers Ibis might have relocated). Lots of St Marks flies around the hawthorn and clouds of midges (though very few hirundines). 2 Lesser whitethroat, or one very mobile bird, were juddering away on opposite sides of the mere. The paler of the Short eared owls hunted around between 5:30-6:00pm flushing a Dunlin and a Black-tailed godwit. Drizzle arrived which coincided with the appearance of 30 Black-tailed godwits that did a few circuits but didn't see them drop down. A fly over Ringed plover added to the waders. Couple of Blackcaps and chiffchaff, though no Willow warblers, single Pied wagtail (been very few this spring). The drake Shelduck looks like he's defending a nest site, aggressively chasing off any ducks that get too close. The 2 pairs of Coot still have 2 young each, and 2 others were on nests. 3 Tufted duck (2m). Teal 2m and a pair. Shoveler lots of males chasing around so tricky to be accurate but appeared to be 15m and 3 pair. Steady drizzle and mist closed in so it was an early finish.
