Continuing the Sand Martin theme, I was delighted to find a flourishing colony on the banks of the Western Cleddau, around a quarter of a mile down from Treffgarne Bridge. This colony was very active around a decade ago - at one stage it had 30+ holes in use. But then it was deserted for a very long time. This year the colony appears to be 10-15 holes, with lots of young being fed.
Two other nice surprises in the area last night were a Tawny Owl that flew right over my head, and a Whimbrel that flew around at midnight, calling repeatedly for 5 minutes.
