We made a brief visit to Pembroke Millpond late yesterday afternoon. Usual waterfowl included 20-30 little grebes, and a female goldeneye.
The overwintering goldeneye population in the county has declined over the last couple of decades, as indicated on the Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS) graph below https://pembsavifauna.co.uk/category/goldeneye/ so it was nice to see one here. The last one we saw at the Millpond was a few years ago.
The colour-ringed Polish Black-headed Gull was still present
but also another metal only ringed bird, which might also be from Poland, but
we only managed to read a single digit and part of an an address that might have been Warsaw before it flew off
with others gulls. If it stays around hopefully it will be spotted again and the
full ring number will be read.
