Great day at Stackpole with our friends Sarah and George, and Roger (from land-locked Berkshire!) on Saturday. A stunning coastline and a treat to see all the breeding seabirds, Choughs, and others in such good light...(if a cold wind!).
A single Puffin was a pleasant surprise lurking in a hole in the rocky cliff face...Razorbills always look so well dressed at this time of year!
Hundreds of Manxies were barreling south by early evening, a mesmerising sight, a few Kittiwakes amongst them. Nice to see a pair of Wheatears collecting food for young and disappearing down the steep slope of the cliff presumably to a nest.
Multiple pairs of Rock Pipits around the headland, some in song, others foraging. Small numbers of Skylarks too.
A real bonus was an immaculate summer plumage Great Northern Diver off Barafundle beach. No pics as diving too often and to busy admiring it!
On Sunday dropped in at Minwear to look for Tree Pipit in the big clearing and sure enough it was there singing away but apparently just one bird. Nice to think there is a female on a nest somewhere...
There were two kites and two ravens at a sheep carcase on the river bank, and then just time to have a quick look from the viewpoint before Roger had to leave for deepest Berkshire and within a couple of mins a superb Osprey sauntered by heading upriver!
