Marloes Mere

Another hour around the mere this evening. Turning into a good year for Green sandpipers with three (possibly a fourth bird viewed from car park in one of the channels but couldn't rule out Common sandpiper), at least 8 snipe seen in flight with a 3 and a single feeding around the damper margins. 10 dunlin swooped in did a noisy fly around the main scrape and left. A bar-tailed godwit was joined at dusk by a black-tailed godwit. 2 Spotted flycatchers in the withies by the Britton hide. About a dozen juvenile Teal and a single juvenile shovler. Couple of whitethroat. 200 linnet on the telegraph wires. A dozen BH gulls having a drink.

Yet another dog walker allowing his dogs to run free, BIGGER signs needed I think. I had a dog come into the Britton hide the other evening as I'd left the door open to scope the far end of the scrape, in fairness when the dogs owner eventually appeared he apologised and put the dog on the lead and led it away. Frustrating though and with levels so low a loose running dog could easily get out on to the scrape and cause a lot of distress to these young passage birds trying to feed up and rest ahead of a long flight to their wintering quarters.
