An acoustic recorder set at Ty Rhyg to help monitor nightjar has been recently retrieved, and among the many nightjar and tawny owl calls is a distant quail at dawn on 4 August. It was probably originating from the adjacent marshy grassland to the north of the main clearing where the recorder was placed. Nightjar were present to the end of August, but only brief calls were heard after 10th, when regular singing stopped.
