Snipe - Newport

There appeared to be a lot of Snipe in the reeds adjacent to the Iron Bridge, on the Moylegrove side, yesterday evening.  A group of 15-25 flew over at dusk, but there were many more calling below them in the marsh, on both sides of the road.  Several years ago there was a large flock of Snipe (~50) on grassy patches above the bridge, hunkered down v quietly during the day in icy weather.

Two Woodcock were flying around the viewpoint above Dinas, the previous evening.  Other evening antics include the regular winter roost of Magpies, 20+, in withies near Pwllgwaelod.

On the river at Newport, shortly before the Snipe: 80 Mallard, 90 Curlew; 3 x Gooseander (2 M, 1 red-head) + Kingfisher + Cormorant all fishing same area towards The Bennet.
