Big Garden Birdwatch / Gann / Marloes Mere

Not the best weather for the BGB today, but the birds didn't seem to mind.  13 species recorded, with some good numbers including 31 House Sparrows and 18 Blue Tits. 86 birds in total.  One of the 3 Starlings was ringed, presumably the same bird we have seen several times recently.  Had a go at getting some photos that might enable the ring to be read: so far 2 digits with certainty (20) and we can see it is a UK ring as the code SW7 can be seen in one of the photos.  We will try again!

A blustery wet walk at the Gann early afternoon was rewarded with the surprise return of 10 Shelduck - the first we have seen here since the end of June according to our records.  The first record we have from 2025 was 5th March, so they do seem to be early.  Also a single Knot on the shoreline loosely associating with Redshank.  (eBird checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S295966048).

An even more blustery and even wetter walk followed at Marloes Mere.  An impressive number of birds here, the highlight of which was 19 Pintail and 9 Black-tailed Godwits.  A lone Dunlin was with the large flock of Golden Plover.  (eBird checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S295984620).
