Out & about

At Newgale early afternoon most of the water had drained from the campsite, 3 Rock Pipits on the damp ground but no Water Pipit. The marsh still held a good amount of water, at least 100 Snipe visible around the margins which was unusual (to see them, at least). On the sea 5 Common Scoter, and a flock of Mallard, Teal & Wigeon presumably displaced from a frozen marsh overnight. A few Mallard still on the unfrozen marsh but only a handful of Teal.

At the Gann 28 Brents on the pool in 2 distinct groups - luckily the colour ringed bird from last week was still present and in the closest flock walking on grass. The left leg has a red ring with a white L on it, and the right leg a white ring with a black K on it. I will submit the details and post the results here when I have them.

At Dale 2 female-type Red-breasted Mergansers (from Black Rock), along with 2 Great Northern Divers and 3 Great-crested Grebes. A relatively meagre roost held an adult (well marked) and a first-winter Med Gull.
