Intriguing......
I decided to watch from the path before you reach Kingfisher Hide this evening, where an opening allows the best view of the reed -bed in front of the hide.
Good job I did! At 18:34 a Bittern flew low across the path in the opposite direction from it's usual travel !
Due to this novel experience I decided to stay & view from the path, to see what happened next.
18:43, a Bittern flies in from high on the expected trajectory to land in reeds in front & to the left of the hide.
Difficult to believe both sightings were the same bird........?
