Minwear Starlings

Truly enormous numbers of Starlings at the Minwear roost this evening - many 10's of thousands and probably 100's of thousands. A lady I met there who has been several times in recent weeks said that this was the biggest roost she had seen yet so it would seem there has been an influx of birds in recent days. Something borne out by the large numbers of Starlings which have appeared at Castlemartin Corse this week.
The only down side to the display (from my perspective, not the Starlings!) was a lack of raptors (I saw only 2 distant Sparrowhawks and 1 Buzzard) which meant that the birds came in and settled pretty quickly in short vegetation right opposite the viewpoint. Nevertheless, an amazing spectacle and well worth a visit in the next week or two before the birds move on to Plumstone.
