Goosander, Goldeneye and Starlings

There were 8 goosander and 10 goldeneye on the main pond at Bosherston today, with a couple of mallard, several coot and moorhen, and at least two water rail. The Ranges held good numbers of thrushes, predominantly redwing, with some fieldfare, starlings and the occasional lapwing. But at western end of the Ranges there were several large mixed flocks of lapwing and golden plover - difficult to estimate numbers from a moving car, but 150+ lapwing and probably 350+ golden plover. This evening, between 1645 and 1655hrs, an estimated 25 thousand starlings passed over our house in Crundale, heading in the direction of Plumstone. And a late report from yesterday: there were 8 dunlin on one of the the groynes by the flagpoles and a merlin perched on the hedge a mile down the St Davids road out of Goodwick.
