Dale Airfield

Gann: LBD in its usual spot by the driveway, 2 bar-tailed godwits, greenshank and 8 Brent on the pools. Airfield: 3 sightings of a marauding merlin, causing panic amongst the flocks of starlings, lapwings and finches. The knot had 10 ringed plover for company. Headed over to look for yesterdays pipit, but no sign of any birds. As I walked up the field following the drain the merlin came down the stream channel like a rocket. At the top end near the farm gate there were wagtails and a pipit calling, but out of sight. At the Gann later - 3 Great crested grebe out in the bay with a few distant wigeon and goldeneye. The female merganser was in the river.
