Yesterday (23/3) - Fieldfare and golden plover

Today (24/3) - highest wheatear total of the year so far with 18 birds present of which 4 were our first females of the season. 100+ meadow pipits were dotted around along with an arrival of 8 pied wagtails in one of the northern fields. The long staying merlin was seen today too.

Lots of chough about - regular flock of 14 and over 20 birds on the island in total but still only 3 pairs have started nest building. Most of the other regular territories are occupied but in this weather birds are too busy feeding to think about anything else it would seem. In contrast, by this date last year when we were basking in temperatures of 20 degrees, 7 pairs had started nest building.
