Skokholm
The totals for the day came to a Red-throated Diver, an amazing 97 Cormorant (the Skokholm record is 107),
a Grey Heron, four Greylag Goose (a Skokholm rare with
less than 30 records), 128 Canada Goose,
a Kestrel, three Water Rail, 18 Oystercatcher, a Ringed
Plover, three Snipe, two Whimbrel, seven Curlew, eight Turnstone,
a juvenile Arctic Skua, 13 adult Mediterranean Gull, 93 Black-headed Gull, 26 Common Gull, two Common Tern, 17 commic tern,
the long-staying Wryneck (which was
retrapped and found to have gained 2g), 56 Skylark,
four Sand Martin, 3709 Swallow, 710 House Martin, 579 Meadow Pipit, a Grey Wagtail, 36 alba wagtail, two Dunnock, 59 Robin, four Whinchat,
two Stonechat, 27 Wheatear (the majority definite Greenland
race birds), nine Blackbird, a Song Thrush, a Grasshopper Warbler, three Sedge
Warbler, seven Blackcap, three Whitethroat, 128 Chiffchaff, six Willow Warbler, four Goldcrest,
ten Spotted Flycatcher, a Starling, two Goldfinch, 16 Linnet and
eight Reed Bunting. No sign of any of our recent rares but perhaps the best day's birding this year.
