I walked part of Castlemartin Corse this morning with Morris North and John Best to help with the Winter Bird Survey. In our patch there were certainly more small birds than in the earlier surveys this winter but still no sign of the large flocks of finches, pipits and larks which have been seen in recent years. Nevertheless it was a good session and two sightings of Merlin, one Short-eared Owl and a Bittern flying over the reed bed were real highlights.
