Hook, Newgale & elsewhere

My WeBS count at Hook today was superb, flat calm and sunny, a real delight to be out.  Lots of birds, highlights included 35 Black-tailed Godwit & 9 Grey Plover.  After Hook, I was on the gull trail.  Started at the north end of Newgale where an adult Kumlien's Gull bathed on the marsh (both birds were seen this morning), along with several Mediterranean Gulls.  Most of the action was further south, and I got myself in the thick of it after clambering down onto the rocks from the coast path about 300m north of Rickett's Head.  Highlight was a new (to me) juvenile Kumlien's Gull, which gave good views in flight and sat on the rocks.  Also here at least 3 Glaucous Gulls (2 2CY including a pale one, and an adult, not the near adult seen since the turn of the year).  At least 6 adult Mediterranean Gulls feeding off here and 30+ Kittiwakes.  I checked the gulls at Nolton without success, and further south in St. Bride's Bay the gulls disappeared.  FInished at Dale where I had 29 Brents (1 dark bellied) on the lagoon at the Gann and in the roost at least 21 Mediterranean Gulls (16 adults, 2 3CY, 3 2CY) and also an adult Kittiwake, a Guillemot and 2 Razorbills were signs of the recent storms.
