St David's Head this morning and a brief look at Newgale Marsh etc this afternoon

Four hours watching from St David's Head produced the usual variety of expected seabirds but no particularly large numbers of any one species.

Gannets (heading to and from Grassholm direction) passed by in ones and twos most of the morning. Most of the auks noted were probably local razorbills (only a few guillemots noted today). A few common scoters were heading south plus small numbers of divers (both red-throated and black-throated) Several divers were feeding offshore including at least two fairly close in black-throated. Small numbers of kittiwakes and common gulls were feeding close in as they slowly moved south.

Just as we were about to pack up a Bonxie landed on the sea briefly and then flew off towards Ramsey Sound at about 14:00 hrs.

On the subject of dead Auks reported earlier by various observers: we noted several (mostly razorbills) drifting in the tide race off St David's Head today attracting the attention of great black-backs. We also noted at least one dead adult gannet floating by - all presumably victims of the recent storms!

A brief visit to Newgale on the way home was rewarded with good views of at least three white-winged species bathing in the flood zone but we didn't manage to see the green-winged teal today.
