I can't help noticing a distinct drop in the number of calling Chiff Chaff's this year in my locality at least, in previous years there has always been at least three calling birds within earshot of the house, and the valley that runs up alongside the track to Sutton Mountain always hosts several calling birds, but this year not a single bird can be heard in the village, and only one bird is calling all the way to the very end of the Sutton Mountain walkway, other common warblers such as Willow, Garden and Blackcap, as well as Grasshopper warbler and Whitethroat have been heard in what can be considered normal numbers, even a lesser Whitehroat briefly.
Is it just Sutton area or have others noticed an apparent decline in Chiff Chaff numbers in other areas?
