Skomer Blyth's Reed Warbler

This unstreaked acrocephalus warbler was found in the Ivy at North Haven this afternoon and after much deliberation, some photos and recordings of the song we are fairly happy that it is a Blyth's Reed Warbler. Short primary projection, concolourous wing, supercilium a blob infront of eye, rump colour, longish bill and general plumage colours helped with the id but the song was very distinctive and consisted of short phrases of mimicry interspersed with brief pauses. Oli from the Oxford team of researchers made a sound recording and we will try and upload it onto our blog along with a few more pics in the next few days. If anyone has the day off tomorrow and wants to come over to try and see the bird we will have a look first thing to see if it is still present and put the news on twitter https://twitter.com/skomer_wildinfo and try and get it on the blog too. Boats will be running tomorrow. As mentioned by Dave, follow onsite instructions by the Skomer staff and volunteers. There is also building work being done on our slip close to the Ivy which may effect viewing.
