We loved watching the Osprey fishing at the Gann early afternoon. It was incredibly dynamic, soaring, almost hovering into the wind, and plunging with a huge splash after a fish. Unlike Derek we failed to see it catch anything. We were fascinated by quite how unpopular it was with other birds: it was frequently mobbed by gulls and crows.
We went up the Carew River on the rising tide and saw aa good variety of waders etc. Probably 100 Curlew, a couple of Whimbrel, 3 Greenshank, 7 Dunlin, a summer plumage Turnstone, and plenty of Redshanks, Shelduck and Little Egret.
Coming back from Skokholm tonight (c.2000) the real surprise was the total absence of Manxies: they (or, at least, the adults) have largely departed, or certainly stopped visiting their chicks.
