Castlemartin and Kilpaison

Dodging the showers I had another look at Castlemartin Corse this morning. Pretty much the same birds as Sunday (though many more Duck) and in the same place on flooded fields at the far, East, end of the Corse. The female Marsh Harrier was again over the reed bed and then flew over the far end which put all the birds up. 46 Black-tailed Godwits in a tight wheeling flock was a great sight as was all the ducks flying around. I didn't get a decent count of the Mallard but there were at least 500 Wigeon and 450 Teal as well as 350 Lapwing.. The 2 Greylags were still present and I counted 29 Snipe. Also 1 Little Egret, 2 Herons and 2 Buzzards.

Other than hundreds of Starlings small birds were noticable by their absence with just 2 Stonechats and a Meadow Pipit noted.

Over at Kilpaison a couple of hours after high tide there were 31 Brents, 10 Barwits, 35 Dunlin, 20 Ringed Plover, 2 Little Egrets, 5 Redshank and 15 Mute Swans. Plenty of Wigeon and Mallard out in the Bay.
