Also on WEBS duty; me, Rich D. and Dawn J. found Fishguard Harbour rather quiet this morning, with just one GC Grebe on show and no divers. Among a smattering of Oystercatchers, Redshank and Curlew, a solitary Greenshank was an unusual find on the beach at the bottom of the slipway. On the outer breakwater we failed to re-locate yesterday's Purple Sands, having to be content with four Ringed Plover and a Turnstone. Seven Cormorant in the harbour were later joined by a further 42 that came in on the mid-day ferry, or behind it anyway, which seemed a bit out of the ordinary.
At Rosebush reservoir there were six Little Grebes, seven Tufted Duck and three Goldeneye with a few Mallard, Teal and Cormorants. We flushed 14 Snipe from about 10 meters of shoreline, so you can extrapolate that for the total circumference of the reservoir if you wish!
With black skies threatening we abandoned Llys-y-Fran reservoir while the gull roost was still in its infancy, but not before enjoying excellent views of the Ring-billed Gull and a Yellow-legged Gull. What a pleasure it was to be able to pick these out from about two dozen gulls in the sunshine, rather than the usual thousands in the evening gloom.
After that it was 'wintry showers' and more all the way home, but we did stop briefly between Mynachlog-ddu and Crymych to count about 95 Fieldfares feeding in a sheep field.
