Llangwm Pill

Llangwm Pill this morning was teeming with birds feeding and sheltering out of the teeth of the easterly wind that has been buffeting the exposed shore at Llangwm Ferry. There were 80 + dunlin, 15 blackwits, four golden plover, one greenshank, umpteen redshank in addition to the usual numbers of teal, 6 mallard and 27 shelduck. The vegetation along both banks of the Pill sheltered numerous lapwings and snipe. Also present around the shore were a substantial number of pipits, both meadow and rock, redwings and fieldfares. The scene was monitored closely from overhead by a single red kite. It was certainly unusual to see a few barwits feeding up at the top end where the stream emerges into the Pill by the stepping stones.
