We made our annual autumn trip to Grassholm today, a week later than scheduled due to last weekend’s storm and the
residual swell. Just a couple of hundred adult gannets were left in attendance at the colony and thankfully few birds needed cutting free, just 18 juveniles. Unfortunately, 20 juveniles
and 15 adults were recorded already dead, tethered to their nests by fisheries mono-filament
and rope.
Nothing super rare to report but the tree mallow was alive with Chiffchaffs
and two Black Redstarts with a Lesser Redpoll feeding in the Yorkshire Fog:
