A late report of a walk around the upper Gwaun valley on Sunday 28th.
We walked from Pontfaen to Llanerch, generally out along the edges of the woods at the top of the valley edge, and back lower level, closer to the river.
Our biggest surprise was not to find any Common Redstarts or Pied Flycatchers. We heard a few snatches of song, but nothing seen - maybe still too early?
Lots of Blackcaps, and a bird in full song that John and I both thought was one, only then to see a Garden Warbler! Fewer, but well distributed, Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs, and a Grasshopper Warbler reeling from the sedges and irises at Llanerch.
2 Dippers flying high up the valley, calling, and a Grey Wagtail. And wonderful views of two tits, in the woods close to the river, displaying noisily. Eventually we concluded most likely Marsh Tits, but the calls were frustratingly different from the recordings we have!
