Following on from Sash's sighting at Hasguard, in recent years I have regularly encountered singing Yellowhammers in the area within a 3-4 miles radius of Broad Haven whilst out cycling. Yesterday evening Lisa & I had 2 singing along 'Long Lane', between Broad Haven & Rosehill, so something is clearly working for them in this area.
Today, following a little in others' footsteps, we found a total of 5 singing male Pied Flycatchers - 3 in the Gwaun Valley, and 2 at Pengelli (where there were also 2 Wood Warblers). Last year I only had 1 singing male at the Gwaun Valley site, and only on my first visit not subsequently, so to have 3 was really special as they seem to be clinging on in Pembrokeshire. It will be interesting to see if they attracts mates and, if so, manage to fledge any young. The new nestboxes at Pengelli were great to see, presumably a massive well done is due to the Wildlife Trust.
In Fishguard Harbour a single Black Guillemot was present near to the ferry terminal / outer breakwater.
