Black Terns..the Teifi

A delightful murky breezy evening down on the Teifi with a 4.4m high tide at 8pm. Positioned at The Webley from 6pm with a rapidly rising tide....

The juvenile Curlew Sandpiper found by Wendy just after this morning's high tide was present with Dunlin and Ringed Plover. Within minutes 2 juv Black-tailed Godwits appeared rapidly followed by 7 Knot. Ringed Plover numbers steadily built up to c40 and Dunlin to 30.  As the waders were forced onto the marsh edge 1 Redshank, 7 Bar-tailed Godwits, 1 Whimbrel and 2 Common Sandpipers all appeared from various angles in the sky. Wigeon calling too. Four noisy Sandwich Terns appeared amongst the Black-headed and 1 juv Med Gulls. At 7pm 2 Black Terns appeared from the sea and briefly landed on a marker buoy before slowly heading up river. Wendy was on her way down to the Webley and managed to pick up the Black Terns as they were flying mid river viewable from St Dogmael's Quay.
