A belated record from Sandy Haven of an immature Great Northern
Diver last Sunday (15th Sept.). It was observed at very close range
by Jane Hodges during her monthly WeBs count there.
Today up at Pwll Deri, small flocks of chough were feeding and
moving around the area (probably no more than 20-25 in total). We searched for a colour-ringed bird noted a couple of weeks ago to try and confirm the colour-combination. It was possibly ringed in North Wales but its origin isn't yet confirmed. Unfortunately we couldn't find it amongst a dozen or so we did manage to see today at close range.
Four red kites drifted
slowly south along the coast – perhaps attracted by dead seal pups in the
area? Ravens and large gulls were scavenging on at least one corpse.
There was a small southerly swallow passage (probably in
excess of 100 plus a few house martins) in an hour or so between 11:00 and 12:00 hrs but otherwise it was fairly quiet on the coast.
