St Davids Head

A full day out around St Davids with Paul G. Not a bad day to be out but very quiet bird-wise. Starting at the golf-course we headed by the old hotel to check fields and sycamores, only a couple of Chiffchaff for our efforts. Continuing down and along the back of Whitesands past the archaeological excavation at St Patricks chapel we then headed up to Porth Melgan and searched the valley, heath and withies. Sparrowhawk at bracken level and a Kestrel much higher and a noisy group of 4-5 Chough. A mixed party of  a dozen Goldcrest, Chiffchaff and few Blue and Great tits gave us hope for something better but it wasn't to be. No sign of any Little owls at the usual site. Paul picked up a Red-throated diver heading north high overhead. Up on the coast path a dozen Wheatear and on a sheltered ivy clad cliff face 3-4 Willow/Chiff were snatching flies. Down into the valley and up Carn Llidi revealed nothing more. Quick look at Penberri Res but nothing here and Porthclais continued the trend. Never mind it might all be different in a few weeks time.
