These unusual time have led to me to take my daily walk on most days on Jetty Road in Hakin, Milford Haven, and it's been encouraging to see the number of birds there. I've seen Great spotted Woodpecker, Song Thrushes, Sparrowhawk, 4 kinds of Tit and 4 kinds of Finch (with Greenfinch and Bullfinch both being regular) and I've heard a Nuthatch calling. A few days ago, there was a Willow Warbler, with another one today. Today a Garden Warbler also brightened up my morning. Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps have been numerous (13 Blackcaps yesterday and 10 today).
At the bottom of the hill, Gelliswick Bay is often quiet apart from Gulls and the odd Cormorant, but I sometimes see Oystercatchers and Turnstones, and a Great Crested Grebe was a surprise just over a week ago.
Recent posts about Greenfinches have interested me, as there is a significant Greenfinch population in this area, with probably 8 to 10 visiting our garden daily, and others being often seen on walks, including on the coast path to Sandy Haven. I wonder if Derek's bird is a sign of their population spreading.
