A long overdue summary of events from Ramsey. I landed for the season on 5 March and by the end of the month the year list stood at 56 species with a further 7 added so far in April. Highlights have been:
Marsh harrier - 15/3 - earliest ever record
Coal tit - 5 on 27/3 - not annual out here and the first spring record
Bullfinch 22/3 - plus 1 a week later (possibly same bird going on plumage and behaviour)
Hooded crow - 30/3
Sandwich tern - 6/4
Ring ouzel - 10/4
Also of note black redstart on several dates (probably a minimum of 3 different birds) and frequent red kite records (some no doubt the same bird)
First migrant dates
chiffchaff 16/3
wheatear 20/3
goldcrest 20/3
redwing 21/3 (departing)
blackcap 21/3
fieldfare 27/3 (departing)
willow warbler 1/4
swallow 5/4
sand martin 10/4
house martin 11/4
In chough news - 10 nest building pairs confirmed with the earliest of those now incubating
