Dunlin fun @ The Gann

Bereft of American Golden Plover, Curlew Sandpiper and Sanderling, we enjoyed close encounters with the large (for this site) Dunlin flock this evening.  Hard to count as they were constantly on the move, our estimate was 220, along with at least 26 Ringed Plover.  In amongst the throng was a new colour-ringed Dunlin 5L3, which also seems to be a bird ringed at Ynyslas in Ceredigion (we await further news).  No sign of the 60L from 2 days ago, or the colour-ringed Ringed Plover, so we can only guess at the turnover of birds.  Also a metal-only ringed bird which we will attempt to read the number from a succession of blurry photos - we don't hold out much hope!

Also on the lagoon which was like a lake on the big tide, a single Greenshank new in, and 2 Common Sandpipers3 Bar-tailed Godwits appeared to be hangers-on from recent days, as perhaps were 3 Whimbrel.

The small waders were quite approachable, we hope you enjoy a little selection of the photos. (Dave & Lisa).
