The small waders have virtually disappeared now: just 1 Dunlin this evening (13 yesterday, 19 the day before) and 1 Ringed Plover (5 yesterday, 9 the day before) but our 2nd Sanderling of the spring dropped in this evening, failing to hide amongst the 58 Oystercatchers present whilst I was trying to read colour-rings.
4 Whimbrel this evening, and after a short absence the Curlew numbers are starting to build again, with 10 this evening including colour-ringed bird no.34 (which reappeared yesterday). Perhaps a (sad) sign of failed breeding attempts elsewhere?
Still one distant Great Northern Diver over by Dale Fort, and 7 Mute Swans flew in from the Angle direction this evening, alighted briefly on the lagoon, before 5 of them (all sub-adults) flew out into the bay again, leaving 2 adults behind. Interesting! Our first Swift of the spring was over the house with around 10 House Martins yesterday evening, battling into the stiff northerly.
Finally, the 'odd couple' remain....
