A bit of doom & gloom

Posts recently all seem pretty upbeat.
But we had locally nesting Peregrines & Kestrels - both failed, as did nearby Great Black Back, Oystercatcher & several Herring Gulls.
I have a 2 mile round trip through Dinas to pick up the paper. I see the very occasional Swallow & House Sparrow, but no evidence of nesting - I go past c3 usual Swallow sites & 4 usual House Sparrow colonies, including 2 in our lane - all deserted.
But on a positive note, our bird feeder is swarming with baby Blue & Great Tits, the local cliff nesting House Martins are there in reasonable numbers & the Newport Herring Gull rooftop colony seems to be OK.
Checking the Newport gulls after 2 months it was nice to meet up with GBB orange S43:M which was ringed as a chick on the Isle of Man in June 2017, moved to Newport by October that year & has been here ever since.
