From Mervyn Hopkins I live in Llangwm and have a view of the Cleddau over Llangwm Pool and the mouth of Llangwm Pill. Yesterday evening, Monday, I spotted a tall white bird on the water’s edge, through my bins I thought that’s a big egret so quickly got the scope and was able to get a reasonable view of it before it flew off downriver towards Benton Castle. I was fairly sure it was a GWEgret but my book shows them having a yellow bill with some black at the tip whereas this one had a black bill.
However, on Springwatch tonight there was a GW Egret shown which clearly had a black bill so I think that settles it.
Isn’t it frustrating that there have been loads of good sightings in places we can’t get to.
