We made a short visit to Pembroke Millpond this afternoon, to see if any ringed Black-headed Gulls had returned. Gull numbers there were not particularly high (too blustery perhaps) but eventually we found TJ55 resting and preening on its usual floating raft spot. It has been visiting the Millpond each autumn/winter since at least 2017, having been ringed at GDAĆSK-OLIWA:PARK OLIWSKI, POMORSKIE, POLAND. Quite a few of the BH Gulls that turn up in the UK are from that general region. It was ringed as an adult in March 2016.

We have noticed a higher proportion of 1CY BH Gulls at the Millpond this autumn compared with the last couple of autumns. Perhaps they have had a better breeding season this year?
It was generally quiet otherwise. Not too many waterfowl around - about 15-20 Little Grebes. We could only see a couple of Black-tailed Godwits in viewable
range on Pembroke River. Most likely there were others further
downstream but out of sight.
